If now in considering the course of history we detach the idea of the ruling class from the ruling class itself and attribute to them an independent existence, if we confine ourselves to saying that these or those ideas were dominant at a given time, without bothering ourselves about the conditions of production and the producers of these ideas, if we thus ignore the individuals and world conditions which are the source of the ideas, we can say, for instance, that during the time that the aristocracy was dominant, the concepts honor, loyalty, etc. were dominant, during the dominance of the bourgeoisie the concepts of freedom, equality, etc…For each new class which puts itself in place of one ruling before it, is compelled, merely in order to carry through its aim, to represent its interest as the common interest of all the members of society, that is, expressed in ideal form: it has to give its ideas the form of universality, and represent them as the only rational, universally valid ones

Race was first introduced in a poem in 1508 but was not developed until the 19th century. At this time people began to theorise that people from different parts of the world came from different origins, which was first outlined in Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. Steve Jones (1994), conducted research into race using genetic research and found that the amount of genetic variation of people of different races was very similar compared to the genetic variation of people in the same races. This work was developed by John Richardson and John Lambert where they came to the conclusion that genetics and race do not impact on behaviour and therefore race had no biological basis. Therefore race was a social construct, an idea accepted by the vast majority of sociologists today (Haralambos & Holborn, 2013).

so we have an indisputibly racist thing ("i only like white people, i don't have any black friends because i have a preference against black people") and a disputedly racist thing ("i only like white babies, i don't have any black babies because i have a preference against black babies") and the only difference between them is that todarac simply declares they are different because he doesn't like the idea that they are morally similar but he can't say why
